Mumbai Rain: IMD issues yellow alert warning of thunderstorm

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted thunderstorm accompanied by lightning and light to moderate rains and gusty winds (30 to 40 kmph) very likely in Mumbai, Thane and adjoining areas for October 7 and 8, the official said.

Maharashtra floods: NDRF, BMC engage in rescue operations at various places

Two teams of Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) arrived at Raigad and Kolhapur to carry rescue operations in the areas. Meanwhile, National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) deployed 8 more teams in the flood-affected areas. A total of 34 teams have been deployed for rescue and relief work at various places.

Mumbai rains: Rescue operations underway after wall collapses on shanties

Prime minister Narendra Modi announced ex-gratia of 200,000 each for the families of those who were killed and 50,000 for those injured. Maharashtra minister Aaditya Thackeray on Sunday visited the sites of landslides in Mumbai and said that the state government and the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) are providing all necessary financial and medical assistance to those affected.

Photos: Incessant rains pummel Mumbai, several feared trapped after landslides

Around 15 people were killed and several injured after they were trapped under houses that collapsed due to landslides. BMC's disaster management cell said that 12 people were brought dead to the Rajawadi Hospital and two were discharged after being treated for their injuries. In a separate incident, three people died and two were injured after houses collapsed in the Vikhroli area.
