Ghats at Delhi’s Nigam Bodh flooded, facility shut

Operations at Delhi's largest cremation facility, Nigambodh Ghat, have been suspended as the water level of the Yamuna River broke a 45-year record and flooded the facility. The Municipal Corporation of Delhi has directed people to use alternative cremation grounds. Delhi records around 470 deaths daily, with over 171,000 deaths registered in 2021.

Fewer bodies at crematoriums as Covid death count drops in Delhi

In north Delhi’s Nigambodh Ghat, also one of the city’s largest crematoriums, there were only four cremations of people who died of Covid-19 on Wednesday.

The funeral procession of former union minister and one of India’s tallest leaders Arun Jaitley reached Nigambodh Ghat on Sunday afternoon. Jaitley was cremated with state honours.The body of the former finance minister was kept at the BJP headquarters in New Delhi on Sunday morning for the public to pay their last respects.
