Congress sends R-Day gift to PM Modi; Tharoor slams ‘Jinnah logic’ in CAA
The Indian National Congress party took a jibe at the Prime Minister on the occasion of the 71st Republic Day. The Congress tweeted a screenshot of an online order and said that it had sent a copy of the Constitution to the PM to be read once he has some time off from 'dividing the country'. At a Republic Day event, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi recited the Preamble to the Constitution, a trend common to many anti-CAA protests across the country. Meanwhile, Congress MP Shashi Tharoor claimed that the Citizenship (Amendment) Act, 2019 was driven by 'Jinnah's logic' and not MK Gandhi's.

The Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir celebrated its first Republic Day since revocation of its special status. Festivities in Jammu were presided over by the Lieutenant Governor, Girish Chandra Murmu. He hoisted the tricolour and also addressed the gathering. Referring to the dilution of Article 370, Murmu said that the people of J&K had been elevated to the same stage as the people of the rest of India in terms of 'rights, benefits and possibilities'. Meanwhile, in Doda, the Indian Army organised a 'Run for Fun' marathon which witnessed a significant turnout.
Serial bomb blasts amid Republic Day celebrations in Assam; none hurt
Serial low-intensity explosions rocked the state of Assam on the occasion of India's 71st Republic Day. Four blasts were reported from Dibrugarh, Sonari and Duliajan. No loss of life or property was suffered in the explosions which took place between 8:00 am and 8:30 am approximately. The terror group, United Liberation Front of Assam (Independent) or ULFA(I), claimed responsibility for the crime. Chief Minister of Assam, Sarbananda Sonowal, called it an act of cowardice and said that the police had been instructed to take strict action against the culprits.

Women bikers of CRPF performed daredevil stunts for the first time in the 2020 Republic Day parade. Seema Nag led the contingent saluting while standing on a moving motorcycle. Head Constable Meena Chaudhary displayed the ready position to fire two pistols. 21 women on five motorcycles make a human pyramid. Assistant Sub Inspector Anita Kumari VV led this formation.

India Gate illuminated in tricolour on the eve of Republic Day. India is celebrating its 71st Republic Day on 26 Jan 2020. Republic Day marks the day on which the Constitution of India came into effect. Numerous structures across the country were lit up in tricolour. Old Secretariat was illuminated ahead of Republic Day. Kolkata Police headquarters, Raj Bhavan and The 42 were also lit up. Janata Bhawan, Gauhati High Court were illuminated in Assam's Gauhati.
