Rafting may not be on in Manali in winter

From Chennai, and close to Chennai VGP, is the Golden Beach which is around 40 kms away.

Which are the nearest tourist destinations around Chennai to spend a weekend. I want to get away from the mayhem of city life?Manjith

From Chennai, and close to Chennai VGP, is the Golden Beach which is around 40 kms away. Maha-balipuram is around 70 kms and Pondicherry/ Puducherry is at a distance of 125 kms.

You could also visit, Tirupati Balaji, which is a pilgrimage shrine. But beware of the queue for the darshan, which is too long to be booked on the spot. So better book the darshan tickets as soon as you reach the place. You will find agents chasing you for the same but do know that they can be trusted upon.

To every above mentioned place, the Metro buses offer good services including AC buses. Also, the option of hiring a taxi is always safe. Chennai has very good taxi services, but please check the tariff and time for this. Do enjoy your time spent around Chennai.

A part from skiing and rafting in Manali, what are the other tourist attractions that I can visit? I love the snow and was planning to visit Kullu. Is Kullu the same as Manali? What are the places to visit in Kullu?Vivek

A In winters, I believe rafting may not be possible. Check up with local tour operators regarding this. You can visit various temples in Manali and you will definitely enjoy Solang Valley, where various sports activities can be enjoyed. Also, you can visit Manikaran, which is around 80 kms from Manali and close to Kullu. Actually, Kullu is the main district and Manali is just a tourist location. There is not much to see in Kullu, but you can definitely visit the Shawl Factory when you visit Manikaran.

All the best for your

Holiday! I can assure you that this holiday will be really be enjoyable. Cheers!
