Is Discord down? Users report 'red text' issue while sending messages; what we know so far

Discord users across the US are reporting an outage, with many saying direct messages are not working.

Discord reported 4,109 outage complaints at 2:52pm EDT on Tuesday, according to user reports on Down Detector.

People across the United States are reporting that Discord is currently down and many are also complaining that direct messages (DMs) are not working properly.

Several users have also shared that a red error text reading “Failed to send message. Hold for options.” is appearing when they try to send messages on the platform.

What did discord say?

Discord has acknowledged the problem and write on X, saying “she isn't ghosting you, dm's are down."

Then around five minutes later of their first X post, Discord gave an update saying, “We are currently investigating an issue impacting users' ability to send direct messages.”

What are users saying?

One user wrote, "for some reason when i send dms on discord nothing embeds and im fairly certain my messages aren't going through despite the messages not turning red."

Another joked, “discord is down, all my esex plans are now cancelled :(”

A third user complained about the app not loading at all, writing, “I can't even start Discord. It just keeps loading endlessly.”

Whole another wrote, “ur giving the discord mods enough time to readjust their chair and place a doordash order.”

Several users also pointed out that the issue isn't limited to DMs. One wrote, “It's not just the DMs that are down. Commands aren't working either.”

Another user wrote, “Thousands of people can't send messages cause they are still banned by your CSAM bug over a month ago so how about you help those people like me while you're at it.”

Frustration was evident in several posts, with one user simply writing, “FIX THIS RIGHT NOW!!!!”

As of now, Discord has not shared a timeline for when the issue will be fully resolved.
