Akshay Kumar’s
Master Chef India
for Star Plus, the Indian adaptation of
Top Chef
on AXN, was expected to go on air in the same time slot and the same weekday as Priyanka Chopra’s
Khatron Ke Khiladi
on Colors.
But buzz is that the show will now be aired on weekends. The time slot and the launch date is still being finalised. Akshay Kumar, under contract with the channel, refused to comment. But his spokesperson asserts that the star who had helmed Season 1 and Season 2 of
KKK
, was never in competition with Priyanka Chopra.
“Akshay has left it to the channel to decide the slot, date of launch and the other details as per their convenience,” she says. COO of Star Network, Sanjay Gupta, says that the show was always targeted for the weekend.
Come one, come all
Shine, the format owners, is producing it in collaboration with Colosseum Productions, and will audition anyone who can cook, whether it’s a housewife, a driver, professional, businessman or student. The channel decided to adapt the concept because there are several cuisines in India that no one would knows about. “There are specific dishes whose recipes are tightly guarded secrets. On this show, we expect to discover dishes from hidden India,” asserts Gupta.
