Sony’s new offering Shubh Vivaah, that premieres on February 27, marks the return of the TV actor Eijaz Khan, who became popular with shows like Kkavyanjali, Kyaa Hoga Nimmo Kaa and Bhaskar Bharti. Excited about his role, Eijaz says, “I was waiting for a challenging role as nothing exciting was coming my way. Shubh Vivaah simply happened. Though it might sound clichéd, my role of Amrit is realistically portrayed, as I think none of us are black or white. All of us have follies.”

He claims audiences will feel they all know someone like Amrit. Having played a good son, brother and husband on TV, what appealed to him was that Amrit was manipulative and got his way, even if it meant tricking people. “He is different with his mom, his brother and the women he has an affair with,” explains the actor.

Though he has done six films so far, it was his role of the loud Sikh in Tanu Weds Manu (2011) that shot him to instant fame. Amused by the reactions he gets from people, Eijaz reveals, “I met this gentleman who wanted me to participate in the Mr Punjab contest as he thought I was a sardar in real life too. It was amazing and I had a tough time convincing him otherwise. I have got many offers for Punjabi films too, but Hindi films and TV keep me busy for now.”

Eijaz’s popularity has grown so much that while he was shooting for Shubh Vivaah in Agra and Vrindavan, with the rest of the cast including Neha Janpandit and Rakesh Bedi, a huge crowd gathered to meet him and refused to leave without seeing him.

The actor is currently also working with Vivek Oberoi in the upcoming film, Zilla Ghaziabad.
