MTV’s Splitsvilla 4-The Gamble Of Love has shifted its base to Dubai this year. Last year the participants battled it out in Phuket, Thailand. It’s winter in the Emirates and the temperature dips to about 20 degrees in the night and is about 26 degrees on a sunny afternoon.

There are 13 girls and three boys who have been chosen to fight it out this season. Says associate creative director Deborah Polycarp, “Participants this year are a mix of different personalities. We have a call-for-entry process for selection.”

Describing this year’s contestant line up Polycarp says, “There are a few girls from Delhi. One of them is a DJ. There are also some from Mumbai, Bareilly and Chandigarh.” This year, each guy will lead a qabila (camp) with four girls. The boys compete against each other to ensure the safety of the ladies. The winner of the task is crowned the king of the week and gets to decide which girl is eliminated. The winner of the show pockets Rs 10 lakh and stands a chance of hosting an MTV show.

At 10 am, we head out to Hatta town, 115 kilometers east of Dubai. Host Nikhil Chinapa called the contestants to Hatta. The task is to milk camels. The person who collects the most, wins. It takes three hours for the winner to milk 150 ml.

The 13 episodes of the season are being shot in a 13,000 square feet villa on the Palm Jumeirah archipelago, land reclaimed from the Persian Gulf. At 2 pm, we drive to the villa. Ten camera teams shoot every move of the contestants. The fight for love goes on, uninterrupted.
