Controversy queen Mallika Sherawat is known to have milked situations for publicity in the past. However, she claims she wasn’t playing to the gallery when she cried on-air, after her dad came on the sets of her soon-to-end reality show, The Bachelorette India.

Whether you choose to believe that or read it with a sardonic shake of the head, you cannot ignore the inimitable Miss Sherawat.

So, you met your father after ages. Couldn’t that have been a private affair, rather than an on-air spectacle sure to bring attention to your TV show?
Sometimes, reality show producers don’t really tell you the whole truth because they want to capture all the emotions on camera. They had told me that my mum was coming, but I had no idea my father was coming too. When I saw my dad, I thought I was hallucinating. I couldn’t stop crying.

You seem to have had no apprehensions about kissing on the show.
This is the 21st century, and it was just a peck. Am I not allowed that? This is a family show, and I haven’t done anything outrageous.

So, as the show nears its end, what are the final things you’re looking for in the winner?
I have money, fame, so I’m not looking for materialistic things from a man. I’m looking for true love. Also, I want to reconnect with my roots. I spend a lot of time abroad, so I miss India.

What’s happening with the film, Lucky Unlucky, which you signed? We hear it got shelved.
I was keen to do it, but the director is struggling with the script. I guess he’s still working on it. I have Dirty Politics in hand, where I play a real-life character (Bhanwari Devi), with Nasseruddin Shah and Anupam Kher.

With you trying to make a career in the west, is your Bollywood career suffering?
I don’t think like that. I’m hosting a `60 crore show. So it’s not like things are not in my control. Yes, I’m doing movies abroad and, recently, did a video with pop-star Bruno Mars.
