Angad HasijaSapnaa Babul Ka Bidaai, the television show, ran into trouble last week with a sect in Punjab taking offence over a line of dialogue delivered by Alekh (played by Angad Hasija), one of the lead characters in the show.

As a result, reportedly, the show has been banned in the state. A warrant was also issued against the actor and the show’s producer, Rajan Shahi.

Though no one from the channel was available for a comment, Hasija said, “I had said Valmiki daku se sadhu kaise ban gaya? It was not meant to be offensive, but I understand that sentiments could have been violated. We apologised on screen, but we had no clue it would snowball into such a big issue. I don’t know much about the ban, but I know that things have become quite serious. So Rajan and I went to Punjab and asked for anticipatory bail. We have got it too.”

When asked about the plummeting ratings of the show, thanks to this issue, Hasija said, “I don’t have an idea about that and I don’t think it had affected the ratings so much.”
