Actor Ashish Sharma is a popular face on Indian television, with shows such as Rang Rasiya and Rab Se Sohna Isshq to his credit. But it was the mythological show Siya Ke Ram, where he portrayed the role of Lord Ram, which made him a household name. It often happens with actors who portray such characters on the small or big screen that people start to associate them with divinity in real life, and Ashish is no exception.

Ashish confesses, “Ever since the show went on air, it happened a lot [of times]. Many people come and touch your feet, and this is sometimes a little embarrassing. I get calls for events like ‘please come and bless the kids’, or in some cases, even to weddings, to bless the couple. I try to steer away from such things.”

While this adulation certainly is overwhelming, Ashish feels that this, in turn, puts more pressure on the actor to behave in a much more dignified manner, and be in sync with the character which made them popular.

“It does get a little challenging sometimes. Sometimes, people don’t understand the difference between real and reel life. It’s your responsibility to not hurt their feelings and beliefs,” says the actor.
