Yudh review: Amitabh Bachchan's show limps back to sluggish pace

Is Anurag Kashyap's Yudh a victim of the hype it generated? Just three episodes old, and this Amitabh Bachchan starrer already seems getting weary of the battle it has taken on itself to fight.

Seems like Anurag Kashyap's is in no hurry to reach anywhere.

, the third one slipped back into a sluggish affair

There were, however, a few high points in the third episode.

What we loved

The Big B's Awadhi touch:

We simply loved Amitabh Bachchan speaking Awadhi on TV! Only an actor of his calibre could transform himself from a high-class English speaking businessman to rattle off the dialogues in Awadhi, his mother tongue. He has done it in the past for a few Bollywood and regional films, but not as regularly as one would have liked him to show off grasp over the language. It was great to see him speak in fluent Awadhi in Wednesday's episode.

The Maoist angle:

Bringing in the maoist angle in the serial was a masterstroke of sorts. Yudh's bored, useless son Rishi (Pavail Gulati) is wasting his time in a maoist-infested jungle instead of taking care of the coal-mining contract his father's just won. The insurgents have threatened to kidnap the boy if Yudh didn't stop mining in the area. This is an interesting twist to the plot, considering that nothing else moves in the serial. A woman wearing a typically Maoist attire, staring at Rishi while he plays cricket on the streets, adds the much-required interest to the sequence.

What we did not

Can we please move on from Amitabh's life-threatening illness, and not have an overdose of Yudh's ever-chattering wife, Anurag? We're tired of sequences where she resembles wives from any of our run-of-the-mill daily soaps (

saas-bahu

sagas).

Also, the joker was dearly missed.

And Anurag, why does the story already look as if it's over-stretched? Some pace is all we demand.
