Venezuelan Defence Minister Vladimir Padrino Lopez declared on Thursday in Caracas that any CIA operation against his country 'will fail', responding to last week's authorisation by US President Donald Trump of a 'covert' action targeting Venezuela. The Defence Minister asserted that the military actions taken by the Maduro government are intended to 'prevent and counter' the 'gross military threat' deployed in the Caribbean and to protect the country 'from any act of destabilisation'.
