Covid spurt in Mumbai: Official admits ‘some evidence’ of community spread

With over 13,500 Covid-19 cases reported so far, Mumbai has emerged as the worst-hit city in India. The spurt in cases has raised concerns regarding possible community transmission of the disease in India's financial capital. Community spread refers to infections which can't be traced back to a source. Speaking to Hindustan Times' Aditi Prasad, Maharashtra's disease surveillance officer, Dr Pradip Awate admitted that there was 'some evidence' of community spread in the city, but he said that the 'larger picture' showed 'clusters' of cases.
