Covid update: Govt on community spread; India past peak; WHO backs India

From Union Health Minister Dr Harsh Vardhan's admission to Covid-19 community transmission in India to WHO's support for India & South Africa's proposal to ease patent rules for vaccine, here are the top updates on the pandemic. Union Health Minister Dr Harsh Vardhan admitted that community transmission of Covid-19 virus has occurred in certain districts in a limited number of states. However, he also clarified that the transmission was not happening countrywide. Meanwhile, Niti Aayog member VK Paul said that 2nd wave of Covid during winter can't be ruled out whereas a govt appointed panel said Covid peak is over & can be controlled by February 2021. The WHO backed India & South Africa's proposal to ease patent rules for vaccine. India & South Africa urged World Trade Organization (WTO) to ease accords that could hamper vaccine procurement.
