Hijab row spreads to MGM college in Karnataka; Students don saffron in protest

The controversy over allowing Muslim girl students wearing Hijabs in Karnataka colleges has now taken a violent turn. Several students wearing saffron scarves stormed the MGM College in Udupi against the entry of Muslim girl students. The protests have now swelled up in the state and section 144 has been imposed in Shivamogga. This comes amid a hearing Karnataka High Court on a plea filed by 5 Muslim students from Kundapura PU College where the controversy had erupted in Decemeber last year. Karnataka Home Minister Araga Jnanendra has now threatened action against those who were provoking the student protests in the state. Karnataka Education Minister BC Nagesh had also asked all students to abide by the uniform dress code in colleges. Watch for more details.
