After floods, fear of land erosion grips Assam
After the floods creating havoc in five dozen villages in Majuli, located amid River Brahmaputra in Assam, the residents now face another threat of rapid land erosion by the gushing waters of the river. Consequently, the residents now here fear that their houses, built on the banks of River Brahmaputra, might get washed away anytime. Residents say that despite tall promises by the government, large-scale erosion over the years has led to the shrinking of the island considerably.
