Amid already worsening ties between India and Maldives, a fresh controversy has erupted over a post on social media platform X (formerly Twitter) by a Maldives politician. Zahid Rameez's post apparently mocking Indian "smell" led to an outpouring of angry comments. Many suggested boycotting Maldives as a tourist destination. This comes amid new Maldives President Mohamed Muizzu's pro-China moves which have included asking India to remove military personnel from Male, refusing to renew a hydrography pact with Delhi, and also breaking tradition and snubbing India for his first official foreign trip.
