Speaking in Moscow on May 9, Putin said Russia had successfully removed enriched uranium from Iran once before and could “repeat this experience” if all parties agree. He also claimed the United States later pushed for the uranium to be transferred exclusively to American territory, which he said hardened Iran’s position. The proposal adds a new geopolitical dimension to the Iran crisis as Moscow positions itself as a central player in any future nuclear settlement involving Tehran and Washington.
