Female tennis star Serena Williams has topped all athletes in 2015 to emerge as Sports Illustrated's Sportsperson of the Year. She fell two-matches short in her bid to complete the elusive Grand Slam, but her dominant performance this year has earned her the top honour. Despite a string of injuries, the 34-year old won the French and Australian Opens and Wimbledon. Overall, Williams held the women's number one ranking all year and won 53 of 56 matches. Sports Illustrated also cited Williams as a force for racial justice, gender equality, and equal access to education.
