Kano State in Nigeria held a mass wedding ceremony for 1,500 couples on Friday as part of a government initiative aimed at helping low-income residents overcome the rising cost of marriage and support family stability.
The initiative, funded through Kano’s social welfare programme, brought together couples from all 44 local government areas. Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf approved 1.5 billion naira, around $1.1 million, for the programme, which targeted widows, divorcees and men and women unable to afford wedding expenses.
