Weeks after a gunman, wielding military-grade rifles, opened fire at worshippers in two mosques in Christchurch, New Zealand's legislators passed the first of three votes to implement stricter gun laws. The bill, if passed, would ban the kind of guns used in the mosque attack. 50 people had died in the attack that the New Zealand government had described as an act of terrorism.
