Hong Kong leader to withdraw controversial bill which sparked protests

Hong Kong's Chief Executive Carrie Lam announced the decision to withdraw a contentious bill which had sparked widespread protests. The bill, containing provisions to extradite criminal suspects to mainland China, had been suspended after opposition, but hadn't been fully withdrawn. Withdrawal of the bill had been one of the main demands of the protestors. The demands had branched out to include a probe into alleged police brutality and more democratic rights.
