Indonesia plane tragedy: Details emerge of lead-up to the crash that killed at least 140

An Indonesian air force transport plane carrying military personnel and their families plowed into a residential neighborhood in the country's third-largest city of Medan shortly after takeoff on Tuesday, killing more than 140. The C-130 Hercules took off around 11.45am for a routine flight and then fell out of the sky just two minutes later. Local media reports said the pilot had asked to return to base shortly after take off and the air force believes there was a malfunction with the plane. The plane has been in service since 1964 and the crash has thrown a renewed spotlight on Indonesia's woeful air safety record. Meanwhile, Indonesian president Joko Widodo promised a review of the country's ageing air force fleet and a defence modernisation drive on Tuesday.
