Blue Rapids tornado videos: Footage of damage emerge Marshall County after touchdown; watch

A tornado struck Blue Rapids, Kansas, on Monday afternoon, causing major damage as dramatic footage of the destruction spread online.

A tornado touched down in Blue Rapids, Marshall County, Kansas, on Monday afternoon, leaving significant damage behind. Footage of the havoc wrecked by the twister emerged on social media.

The tornado in Blue Rapids came amid severe tornado warnings from the National Weather Service (NWS) for parts of west and northwest Kansas. It included Atchison, Doniphan and Marshall counties, among others, till 10pm. Weather conditions are expected to improve later on Tuesday.

Storm chaser Max Velocity shared live footage from Blue Rapids, which showed damage to trees, fields and power lines. The tornado was classified as a Potentially Destructive Tornado (PDS), Velocity reported.

NWS Confirms Details

The NWS confirmed that around 5:24pm on Monday, a tornado touched down in Marshall County. It was moving northeast at a speed of 35 miles per hour, the NWS said, per WIBW 13 of Kansas.

A tornado warning was in effect for southeastern Washington County and central Marshall County till 6pm. It has now expired.

Apart from the tornado near Blue Rapids, another was spotted south of Waterville around 5:04pm today.

Missouri Under Tornado Alert

Along with Kansas, several Missouri counties were placed under alert by the NWS amid strong possibility of tornadoes. Fox4 Kansas City reported that a tornado on the ground was confirmed in Maryville.

A tornado warning has been issued for Worth and Nodaway counties that expires at 8pm. Harrison and Worth counties until 8:15pm. Most of Missouri is expected to see tornadoes and thunderstorms with multiple weather warnings through Monday night.
