A tornado tore through Somerset, Kentucky, late Friday, with unconfirmed reports pointing to widespread damage. Videos from the scene show homes destroyed and debris scattered across neighborhoods. Some early reports have even suggested a possible “mass casualty” incident, though authorities have not yet confirmed this. The tornado struck as webcam footage captured intense wind gusts and severe thunderstorms moving through heavily populated areas.

Radar data indicates a strong tornado, with possible pea-sized hail. The affected regions include the likes of Shopville, Somerset, Elihu, Burnside, Nancy, which are key regions where the tornado is traveling along. The potential exposure of this tornado is quite spread out, affected a population of more than 50,000. The tornado trajectory affects nearly 20 schools in the region, including 1 major hospital in the region.
Severe weather -
Mid-May is currently living up to its reputation for severe weather conditions. An active weather pattern highlights the threat of strong tornadoes, damaging hail and intense, destructive wind gusts over multiple days. With Somerset being the latest hits, with one of the tornado alerts also rising in through western and northern St. Louis on Friday.
Another significant tornado rapidly moved eastward through Kentucky near Hopkinsville. This again resulted in a major tornado emergency.
Only after these tornadoes performed their might, later in the evening, a strong to intense tornado stuck near Somerset, Kentucky.
According to Weather.com, the weekend might also see the occurence of severe thunderstorms in the region, particularly from Sunday through Tuesday.
On Saturday, there are chances of severe scattered storms that could impact regions including the likes of New York state to North Carolina, followed by some southern regions including Texas, Oklahoma and Arkansas.
