Social Security beneficiaries in the US can expect payments to follow the usual staggered schedule in April, with disbursements based on birth dates, according to NewsNation.

The Social Security Administration distributes retirement benefits on different Wednesdays each month, depending on when recipients were born.
For April, the schedule is as follows:
- April 8: Beneficiaries born between the 1st and 10th
- April 15: Those born between the 11th and 20th
- April 22: Those born between the 21st and 31st
- Supplemental Security Income (SSI) recipients will receive their payments earlier, on April 1.
- Meanwhile, individuals who began receiving Social Security before May 1997, or those who receive both Social Security and SSI, are scheduled to be paid on April 3.
Benefits increase in 2026
Social Security payments saw a modest increase this year due to a cost-of-living adjustment (COLA). As reported by NewsNation, the 2.8% adjustment announced in October raised the average monthly benefit for retirees by about $56, from $2,015 to $2,071.
The annual adjustment is designed to help beneficiaries keep pace with inflation.

If there is no issue on the bank’s end, beneficiaries are encouraged to contact the agency directly or visit a local office for assistance.

Concerns over future funding
Beyond monthly payments, concerns remain about the long-term sustainability of Social Security.
A recent analysis by the Congressional Budget Office found that the program’s main trust fund could be depleted by 2032, a year earlier than previously projected.
Even if the trust fund reserves are exhausted, payments would not stop entirely. However, benefits could be reduced significantly unless changes are made to the system.
For now, recipients can expect April payments to arrive as scheduled, following the SSA’s standard timeline.
