BERLIN: Hundreds of German police including specialist commandos combed a residential area of the eastern city of Chemnitz on Saturday for a Syrian man suspected of planning a bomb attack, after failing to find him in a raid on an apartment. The deployment followed a tip-off from the domestic intelligence service. Investigators found several hundred grams of explosives hidden in the apartment and three contacts of the man were detained and being questioned, police said. The city was placed in lockdown, as the country grapples with a weakened sense of security following recent terror assaults.
