The buses crashed on Tuesday on the Panamerican Highway some 550 kilometers south of Lima due to "a wrong move by one of the drivers," police Colonel Victor Ordinola told AFP.
Among the dead were three women and two children. The injured were taken to hospitals in Arequipa and Nasca.
The accident brought the death total in four bus accidents over the past five days to 45, including a tourist from Spain.
