Battle between brothers for Labour leadership

Former Foreign Secretary David Miliband appears to be emerging as the favourite to become the new leader of Britain's Labour Party, ahead of his younger brother Ed,according to latest opinion polls.

Former Foreign Secretary David Miliband appears to be emerging as the favourite to become the
new leader of Britain's Labour Party, ahead of his younger brother Ed,according to latest opinion polls.

David, 45,scored 37% of first preference votes in comparison to 29% for Ed, the former energy secretary in a YouGov poll carried out by the Sun newspaper.

The Labour Party which was thrown out of power in a close contest by the Conservatives, has been leaderless since
the resignation of former prime minister Gordon Brown.

The two brothers are in different camps in the party. While David is close to Tony Blair, Ed is in the group of Gordon Brown.

Though they belong to rival groups, the siblings have vowed to get over party squabbles, which marked the
Blair Brown era, saying that the Labour party which was voted out after 13 yr in power, needs a fresh start.

The new leader will be elected by a combination of Labour lawmakers from the House of Commons and the European
Parliament,trade unions,other affiliated organisations and party members.

Other candidates in the fray,challenging the siblings for the party leadership are Diane Abott,who got 12%
of the votes and ex education secretary Ed Balls who got 11%.
