The National Air Traffic Service's statememt marked an extension of a previous no-fly decree issued on Saturday night that excluded Belfast.

In April, ash from the volcano caused widespread disruption across Europe when a number of countries closed their airspaces for nearly a week as a safety precaution.

Since then the ash has periodically forced the short-term closure of parts of airspace in some European countries.
