Mohammad Hussein Andiwal, the police chief of Helmand province, says the bombing on Wednesday in Gereshk district also wounded 17 people, including five children, and killed several sheep.

Andiwal accuses the Taliban of targetting civilians to "create fear in the people." He says there were no security forces in the area at the time of the explosion.

The Taliban frequently target Afghan and international security forces, but this year they have increased their attacks against civilians as well.
