An American pilot and two Palau police officers in a Cessna tracking the fishing boat are missing after reporting they were running out of fuel. The Coast Guard is in its third day of searching.

Joining the search is a mega-yacht owned by Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen, who visited nearby Guam about a week ago.

Palau presidential spokesman Fermin Meriang tells Pacific Daily News that officers fired when the fishing boat tried to ram their boat Sunday. Five Chinese fishermen have been charged with illegal fishing.

Palau is some 500 miles east of the Philippines.
