French Foreign Ministry spokesman Romain Nadal says most of the EU's 27 members will send representatives to the talks on Tuesday evening in Paris.
France holds the EU's rotating presidency. It is calling for an end to the fighting in Gaza. Israeli warplanes have pounded Hamas targets, and the UN says more than 360 Palestinians have been killed, most of them members of Hamas security forces. Nadal, the French spokesman, said the population in Hamas-ruled Gaza needs humanitarian aid and that border points should be reopened so it gets through.
The European Commission too is renewing its plea for a cease-fire.
