An Iraqi court sentences two former high-ranking members of Saddam Hussein's regime to death for their role in a genocidal campaign against Iraq's ethnic Kurds.

An Iraqi court on Sunday sentenced two former high-ranking members of Saddam Hussein's regime to death for their role in a genocidal campaign against Iraq's ethnic Kurds that killed tens of thousands in the 1980s.

Two others were sentenced to life in prison and a fifth was acquitted for lack of evidence. The court has yet to pass judgment on the main defendant, Saddam's cousin, Ali Hassan al-Majid, known as "Chemical Ali", who was the architect of the campaign.
