"All we can say is that there has been a small explosion in that hotel," a police spokesman told AFP, saying any more information would be given in an upcoming press conference.
Danish media said an alleged suicide bomber had triggered the explosion in the toilets of the central Joergensen hotel.
The reports said a man bleeding from the head was surrounded by police, but reported no other victims.
Denmark is considered vulnerable to Islamist terror attacks after cartoons of the Prophet Mohammed that angered Muslims were published by a major daily there.
