The City of Mississauga Council will on Thursday present the award to Dheer, who works as a station manager with Rogers Cable Television.

"I started volunteering when I was a little kid and my dad was the president of the India-Canada Association in Kitchener, before we moved to Mississauga in 1980," said Dheer, 43. Mississauga is located just west of Toronto.

Dheer lives with his wife Geeta and his children Sonia, 9, and Arjun, 4.
