Militant chief held in Bangladesh

The head of the banned Jamaatul Mujahideen Bangladesh has been arrested, police said today.

The head of the banned Jamaatul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) has been arrested, police said on Tuesday.

Anwar Alam Khokon, the acting chief of JMB, was arrested in Bogra district, 200 km northwest of Dhaka, district police chief Md Humayun Kabir told Xinhua on the phone. Five other militants were also arrested.

A huge cache of arms and explosives were seized from their possession.

In May, police had arrested JMB chief Saidur Rahman in Dhaka after a three-year manhunt.

The JMB, which wants to establish Islamic rule, is accused of conducting serial bombings in the country.
