North Korea is observing the end of the 100-day mourning period following the death of leader Kim Jong Il.
North Korea's official state news agency reported Sunday that Kim's son and new leader Kim Jong Un and senior party and military officials went to the Kumsusan mausoleum to pay their respects at Kim's portrait. The Kumsusan Palace of the Sun is where Kim's body will eventually lie in state along with his father, late President Kim Il Sung.
Kim Jong Il died of a heart attack in December. State television began an early morning broadcast in Kim's memory.
