President condoles death of Bhagwat Jha Azad

President Pratiba Patil today condoled the death of former Bihar chief minister Bhagwat Jha Azad.

President Pratiba Patil on Monday condoled the death of former Bihar chief minister Bhagwat Jha Azad.

President Patil, who is on a state visit to Switzerland, said Azad was a public figure deeply committed to the welfare of the people of Bihar.

A six-time member of the Lok Sabha from Bhagalpur in Bihar, Azad died in New Delhi today after a prolonged illness. He was 89.

Azad, father of cricketer-turned-politician Kirti Azad, had been ailing for some time and was admitted to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS).

A veteran Congressman, Azad was the Chief Minister of Bihar between February 14, 1988, and March 10, 1989.
