"We welcome the positive intent expressed by New Delhi and Islamabad for the creation of an atmosphere of trust with the aim to normalise the whole complex of Indo-Pakistani relations," the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

It noted that the joint communiqué issued at the end of June 23-24 talks between Indian foreign secretary Nirupama Rao and her Pakistani counterpart Salman Bashir in Islamabad is an evidence of the desire of both sides to resolve all their outstanding issues through dialogue and a search for mutually accepted solutions.

"In our view the advancement of the dialogue process between the two nations will have a beneficial effect on the situation in South Asia," the Russian Foreign Ministry said in the statement posted on its website.
