The local political administration said a tribesman was killed when Taliban fighters attacked Ali Zai village in Lower Kurram. Security forces and the lashkar or militia of the Shia Turi tribe repulsed the attack, killing six militants.

In a separate incident, a militant was killed when security forces and a lashkar retaliated against an attack on Pewar village last night.

Residents of Kurram Agency have been facing hardships due to the blockade of a key road in the area following months of sectarian clashes between Shia and Sunni tribesmen.
