Somaliweyn radio's director Abukar Hassan was shot dead near his home in the western district of Madina in Mogadishu, Xinhua quoted police officer Khalid Yonis as saying over phone.

The security forces are investigating this "senseless killing". This is the third such killing of Somali journalists during the past three months, he added.

Radio Somaliweyn is an independent station operating in the north of Mogadishu.
