Suicide attack at district Nazim house in northwest Pakistan

A local government official in northwest Pakistan had a narrow escape on Thursday when a suicide bomber blew him up after being intercepted by guards at the entrance of a guesthouse, police said.

A local government official in northwest Pakistan had a narrow escape on Thursday when a suicide bomber blew him up after being intercepted by guards at the entrance of a guesthouse, police said.

District 'nazim' or mayor Qudratullah Khan Marwat was meeting people in his 'hujra' or guesthouse at Esak Khel village in Lakki Marwat district when the suicide attacker tried to enter the premises.

The bomber blew him up when the official's guards intercepted him.

The bomber was killed while the Nazim and his father had a narrow escape, police said.

The guesthouse was damaged by the blast.

Police cordoned off the spot after the blast, the latest in a wave of suicide attacks that killed hundreds across Pakistan.
