The bomber, five policemen and a civilian bystander were among those killed in the blast as a police patrol passed through the predominantly Christian district of Bartalah, some 30 kilometres east of Mosul, police told DPA.
Mosul and its environs, which lie some 400 km north of Baghdad, are among the most ethnically and religiously diverse areas of Iraq, but remain among the most prone to violence.
Earlier Monday, two policemen died when a bomb went off near a security check point. Two further policemen were wounded, police said.
