The attack occurred a day after heavily-armed terrorists stormed two mosques of the minority Ahmedi sect, killing 95 people and injuring over 100.
SSP (Operations) Chaudhry Shafiq Ahmad described the attack on the police picket as an "act of terrorism", saying three such incidents had occurred in Lahore recently.
"We have launched a search operation for the killers," he said.
