"Insurgents raided the company office in Manogai district Sunday morning and abducted 17 employees, but three of them were set free hours later," the statement said.

However, it did not mention whether the firm was an Afghan or a foreign company.

A local Taliban group led by Mullah Nasrullah is involved in the abduction, the statement said.

"The police with support from local tribal elders would use any possible means to ensure safe release of the hostages," it added.

Taliban militants have abducted around 100 people over the past two months in Farah and Kandahar provinces, officials said.
