Two US nationals were arrested after a weapon was found in their carry-on luggage at the Bandaranaike International Airport in Colombo, police said on Thursday.

Two US nationals were arrested after a weapon was found in their carry-on luggage at the Bandaranaike International Airport in Colombo, police said on Thursday.
They were arrested on Wednesday night when a firearm, similar to a pistol, showed up in the X-ray machine before the pair boarded a flight, police said.
The unnamed US nationals have been handed over to the police's crime investigations department for further questioning and investigations.
There was no immediate reaction from the US embassy in Colombo.
