Warning that "time is running out," UN chief Ban Ki-moon appealed to world leaders on Monday to redouble efforts to secure a compromise deal on climate change in Copenhagen late this week.

"I appeal to all world leaders... to redouble efforts to find room for compromise," he told reporters hours before he was due to leave to join the high-stakes climate talks in the Danish capital.

"Time is running out... There is no time for posturing or blaming."
