A senior US official has warned that another major attack on US interests in Afghanistan by Pakistan-based militant groups would greatly damage the alliance with Islamabad.

"A spectacular raid or a set of spectacular mis-steps... could take the relationship much more in a direction that would be detrimental for both countries," The Express Tribune quoted the official from Islamabad, as saying.

The official expressed US' frustrations with Pakistan for not being able to tackle groups like the Haqqani network.
